The California Student Media Festival
Last year I made a short documentary featuring my sister Micayla, following her journey post-injury to achieving her goal of being accepted into The Royal Ballet School in England. The whole project unfolded beautifully and I entered the short film into the California Student Media Festival hosted by PBS SoCal. It won Best Cinematography in the High School division and I attended the premiere in June! It was thrilling to see my creation on the big screen! So awesome!! My film was shown on PBS SoCal on September 25th and it will be shown again throughout the next few months. Here is a link with listings and the link to watch the documentary.

University Students
Carly and Micayla started classes at our local university this semester. You might wonder how a teen not officially graduated (Micayla) from high school can attend a classes at a university? Well, it is quite easy actually. There is a program called "Open University" and as far as we know just about anyone can enroll and take classes. Both girls picked classes that sounded interesting and suited their passions. They talked to the teachers, had their enrollment forms signed, turned them into the Open University along with payment and Voila! They now have student ID's and are now officially university students. No testing or applications necessary!
